Residential Parking Sticker Woes
The city I live in has come up with a unique way to generate revenue. My city, like most metropolitan cities, has strict residential parking laws. If your car does not have a residential parking sticker during weekday hours, your car will be ticketed. And the Ticket Police love roaming the neighborhood to hand out these tickets (to raise revenue, I suspect).
Sounds reasonable so far. The issue arises when your residential parking sticker comes up for renewal. You see, you need to bring in your old residential parking sticker in order to receive your new residential parking sticker.
Now, living in a metropolitan city, I, like 95% of my brethren living in my neighborhood, commute to work using public transportation, leaving cars parked on our residential streets during the day. Ignoring for a moment the difficulty of trying to remove a year old sticker from the front driver's side window of your car, the need to take your old sticker into the renewal center downtown means leaving your car without a residential parking sticker for a day, ergo, leaving your vehicle open to being ticketed for not having a residential parking sticker (which, according to Murphy's Law, it inevitably will).
So, not only does the city receive your residential parking renewal fee, but they receive the additional revenue from your mailed check paying for the parking fee for leaving your car without a residential parking sticker for a day. I would be angry, except that the individual who came up with this procedure has displayed such a clever way of generating city revenue, that I almost wish that other city workers would display such cleverness, except in the future, I hope that it is directed towards people who don't actually live within city limits.
